The Davenports by Krystal Marquis, 2023
This historical fiction features an immensely wealthy and influential Black family in 1910. The three children are raised to be models of wealth and position, but find their own interests. For example, one of the four, the oldest, Olivia, and about to be married, learns about the Civil Rights movement and meets the organization’s charismatic leader. The novel combines self-discovery and romance with a background of racism and change.
I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle, 2024
In this fun story a plague of dragons of all sizes is invading castles. Robert (short for a very long name) is hired as the exterminator so the castle can be fixed up for the princess’s wedding. There are problems: he detests killing and the princess is really lovely.
Lunar New Year Love Story by Gene Luen Yang, 2024
This graphic novel follows Valentina, a young Vietnamese girl. She believes that like her parents she will never find love. She meets Jae who also has family troubles. Besides her grandmother’s love, a magic element in the story, St Valentine, bestows knowledge.

This fantasy is set in Asia where tea is important and has magic properties. Ning has guilt that she brewed the wrong tea that killed her mother. Her sister is now very ill. Ning has the chance to become the greatest tea creator in the kingdom and find favor. She learns that there is deception and danger at the competition; no one can be trusted. (There is a sequel).
Powerful (Powerless #1) by Lauren Roberts, 2024
Powerless and Powerful are both #1 in the series of 4 books. Powerful is a novela and a prequel, but is more informative to read later. The Elite have magic powers. Paedyn is an Ordinary, but her father taught her many skills. She saves one of the princes and is recruited to participate in the games to the death with only her wits. Either of the prince brothers could become her romantic partner. There are many twists and turns throughout this exciting fantasy.
Snowglobe by Soyoung Park, 2024
This dystopian novel finds civilization trapped in a huge dome. Outside is such freezing temperatures that a human would die quickly. Workers have to travel to the energy plant to keep the globe warm and functioning. Television programs are broadcast to the workers about the wonderful life in the globe. Chobaum, a worker, is entranced with the propaganda TV shows from the rulers until she has a chance to attend in person and finds out the lies.
Sunrise Nights by Jeff Zentner, 2024
In this lovely, warm romance Florence and Jude meet the last night of art camp. She is losing her eyesight and her career as a dancer and he is dealing with family issues and anxiety. He only feels safe behind his camera. Their problems and the timing may threaten any chance at romance.

Noor Khan's father leaves the family and her mother moves them to another town. The new school is against any differences, but Noor, who planned to just endure the new school for the semester until graduation, stands up against book banning and other issues at the new school.
